With recent political events, there is a growing distrust in American culture, especially for vulnerable populations like immigrants and refugees. Patient trust in their health care provider has significant implications for health. A trusting patient-provider relationship is associated with positive health outcomes.The purpose of this research study is to explore and begin to understand the meaning of trust from the perspective of patients, especially those most vulnerable, the uninsured population. There are two specific aims of the proposed research study: 1. To explore and understand how uninsured patients describe trust, particularly trust between patient and health clinic, and 2. To describe how trust can be developed with uninsured patients to positively impact health. A descriptive, community-based participatory research approach is proposed through the use of Photovoice and focus groups to understand perceptions and feelings about the concept of trust, particularly between patient and health care provider, staff, and/or clinic.
